my little black rose

dedicated to Jo

You know? I prepared this weeks ago and wasn't in the mood to post it -- till I read your qoute of the Little Prince. The one I chose is a sequel to yours, in a way.

"What must I do, to tame you?" asked the little prince.

"You must be very patient," replied the fox. "First you will sit down at a little distance from me -- like that -- in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings. But you will sit a little closer to me, every day . . ."

The next day the little prince came back.

[...]

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important," said the fox.

"It is the time I have wasted for my rose --" said the little prince, so that he would be sure to remember.

"Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose . . ."

"I am responsible for my rose," the little prince repeated, so that he would be sure to remember.

  1. Your truth is yours, and if you ever honour me with part of it, whatever it is, it's still yours and yours alone. I will only be the guardian of it and will never do with it as I please, as it is yours and will remain yours forever.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
